“I have always been interested in finding natural ways to maintain health and wellness. I also am passionate about empowering people to take charge of their own health.
I started my undergraduate prerequisite studies in Western Medicine preparing for a nursing degree. By the time I had completed my associate’s degree I knew that I wanted to focus my energy on a more holistic type of medicine that treats the whole person, mind, body and spirit. I wanted to find a medicine that focuses on fixing the root cause of disease instead of just covering up symptoms.
I went on a search for this elusive (to me) medicine. I am an active person and I was naturally drawn to Yoga. I found a 300-hour teacher training course in Hatha (pronounced ha-ta) Yoga and discovered that Yoga is much more than the exercise we consider it to be here in America. Yoga has been been practiced for thousands of years and focuses on the whole person, uniting mind, body and spirit. When I finished my Yoga teacher training I knew that there was more out there for me and though I loved and continue to love yoga, I resumed my search, for I hadn’t yet found the medicine I was looking for.
That is when discovered Chinese Medicine and though I knew nothing about it, I intuitively knew that I had found what I had been searching for. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) also dates back thousands of years and is a complete medical system that consists of acupuncture, moxibustion, herbal medicine, tui na (massage and body manipulation), cupping, tai chi and qi gong. All of these modalities are used to bring the yin and yang energy of the body back into balance when imbalanced energy manifests as pain or disease.
I have always had a passion for natural health and have had great success treating a wide range of health issues with TCM. During my internship I worked with the Multiple Sclerosis clinic helping people with MS find relief from their symptoms. I also spent time treating people in the depression clinic and was able to experience firsthand the efficacy of acupuncture in helping treat depression. TCM is an amazing medical system that is able to help people heal when they have tried everything else.
Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners are facilitators in the healing process. We all have within us the ability to heal. Health is our natural state of being. When your body’s energy is out of balance, disease will eventually manifest. Chinese Medicine is a way to bring your body back into balance to allow your natural healing capabilities to take over.”
